Being a specialist mental health academic mentor with SMC is incredibly rewarding. It gives me the opportunity to support students throughout their studies, both navigating their challenges and encouraging their success. The role has also had a profound impact on me as a researcher and practitioner, working with students across a diverse range of topics and specialties has enriched my practice, deepened my understanding, and continuously inspired my own professional growth.

Since the very first day, you feel like you are part of a team who wants the best for every student walking through their doors. The support I have received as a mentor has been phenomenal, and I couldn’t recommend it enough for those who share a passion for helping others and feel like you are making a meaningful impact. SMC are top professionals and people.

Getting a position with Scholars has been life changing for me. Working for a smaller company is ideal, as it allows me to feel valued for my experience and supported with any challenges. It provides the perfect work/life balance and I feel great joy in seeing my students progress and thrive. I receive excellent support from the team and could not recommend them any more highly!

I joined Scholars Mentoring Company in September and have really appreciated their supportive and flexible approach. The supervision they provide is amazing, allowing us to determine the best strategies for each student. Their flexibility with working hours makes it easier for both students and mentors to schedule sessions around their busy lives. Being part of such a meaningful cause and having the chance to help others is an invaluable experience. The passion and dedication shown by everyone involved is truly inspiring.
Rhea (2021 – current)
I have so much gratitude for Scholars Mentoring because working with them as a ‘study assistant’ has allowed me to realise that we have such a beautiful opportunity to learn from the students too. I feel inspired when I work alongside students who work hard and persevere despite their health limitations. They continue to prove that no health challenge is too great to achieve an education. All that these students need is someone to believe in them and someone who can offer personalised support. This belief is something that I would have otherwise doubted, had I not seen the evidence on a daily basis, as a study assistant. It’s been a true joy to work across different universities with Scholars Mentoring.
Jonathon (2020 – current)
Working for Scholars Mentoring has proved to be one of the most enriching and empowering experiences of my academic life, which began as a PhD student and part time lecturer over thirty years ago. The staff at Scholars helped me facilitate a new direction in my career, broadened my understanding of student pastoral care and supported me sensitively through the retraining. Working with non neurotypical students on a one to one basis comes with wonderful rewards, with each day starting with the belief that the work we do can give confidence and hope in a myriad of different ways.

I have been grateful to be part of the company.

I’ve been with Scholars for six-years. I’ve stayed as it’s given me the opportunity to work in a student-led way. It doesn’t feel like working for a business, as people are the focus of what we do. Striving to enable people to attain their academic best, despite the challenges they face, is at the centre of Scholars ethos.
